Protect against human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause genital warts and several cancers, including cervical, anal and some throat cancers.
HPV vaccination is free under the National Immunisation Program for eligible people aged 12–25 years. Most immunocompetent people aged 9–25 need one dose. Some people who are immunocompromised need a 3-dose course. Adults aged 26 and over are not routinely recommended vaccination, although it may still be appropriate for some people depending on their risk.

Pneumococcal Vaccination
About this service
Protect yourself against pneumococcal disease, which can cause serious infections such as pneumonia, sepsis and meningitis.
From 1 July 2026, the pneumococcal vaccine is free under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for adults aged 65 years and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 25 years and over, and adults aged 18 years and over with certain medical risk conditions. The new Capvaxive® (21-valent) vaccine is the NIP-funded adult vaccine.
For patients who are not NIP-eligible, private vaccination may also be available. Please contact us if you are unsure whether you qualify.

Protect against rabies, a rare but almost invariably fatal viral infection spread through the saliva of infected animals, usually from a bite or scratch.
Pre-travel rabies vaccination may be recommended for people travelling to countries where rabies is present, particularly if they may have contact with animals or may have limited access to prompt medical care. The usual pre-exposure course can be given as 2 doses on days 0 and 7 for immunocompetent travellers.

Protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which can cause serious respiratory illness, particularly in older adults and young babies.
RSV vaccination is free under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for adults aged 75 years and over.
It is also free for pregnant women from 28 weeks gestation. Abrysvo® is given during each pregnancy to help protect the baby during the first months of life.
RSV vaccination is also NIP-funded for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 60 years and over.
For pregnancy, vaccination is recommended from 28 weeks, preferably between 28 and 36 weeks. Abrysvo® is the RSV vaccine used in pregnancy.

Protect yourself against shingles, a painful condition caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus that can sometimes lead to long-lasting nerve pain.
A 2-dose course of Shingrix® is free under the NIP for adults aged 65 years and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 50 years and over, and adults aged 18 years and over with certain immunocompromising conditions or treatments. For most people, the 2 doses are given 2–6 months apart.

Protect against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis) with a dTpa vaccine such as Boostrix®.
This is commonly given as a private vaccination for adults who are due for a booster, people travelling, grandparents and others who will be in close contact with a newborn baby. Adults aged 65 years and over are recommended to have a dTpa booster if their last dose was more than 10 years ago.
The vaccine is free under the National Immunisation Program for pregnant women during every pregnancy, ideally between 20 and 32 weeks, to help protect their newborn baby against whooping cough.
